Investigating the determinants of happiness index in EU-27 countries: a quantile regression approach

Purpose This paper examines the determinants of happiness index ratings in European countries over 8 time points using unique data from Eurostat, World Bank and Happiness Reports. Design/methodology/approach To examine for EU-27 period 2012–2019, panel ordinary least square quantile regression model are used to obtained all sample. Findings Evidence on generate some important key outcomes; economic outcomes levels with both current taxes inflation rate have a positively relationship (HIR), while total employment has significant negativity HIR. Additionally, 27 countries, impact financial inclusion looks change country's level income. On macroeconomic level, gross domestic product (GDP) improves individual under certain conditions. Thus, GDP 0.25th significantly impacts HIR leader countries. Social implications Empirical evidence suggests that macro-economic variables labor market proxies play role determining as well.
